Mussa Ibrahim Hajat - A Poem

Born in India

Buried in Blantyre

A loving and beloved

Son, husband, father, grandfather

Big brother, brother in law,

Cousin, uncle, and friend.

Once known to many as Mussa Bata

His name is synonymous with laughter.

His dedication to his family and his business

Has left a footprint none can dismiss.

From city to city he traveled

Selecting shoes and sealing deals.

He followed his dreams and put in the work

He reaped the rewards and never looked back.

Our Mussa Mama - a role model for all

Lived his life with faith and discipline.

Dressed in a safari suit with his briefcase in hand

And razor-sharp focused on the job at hand!

He took care of his health like no other

Remembering that his body is an amanah

Doctors' appointments he made and kept

Letting no symptom go unchecked.

Our Mussa Mama - our family treasure

A stickler for routine and a follower of rules

Living his best life - all in good measure

Balancing work, rest, and pleasure.

Always present at family gatherings

Listening attentively and nodding away

Waiting patiently to make his move

And light up the conversation with laughter and love.

Tea time would always find him

Not wanting to keep himself apart

A full cup of tea was too much for him

So for half a cup he would always ask.

May our memories of him

Always comfort and inspire us

To be the best that we can be

To carry on his legacy

To know our purpose here on Earth

And never for one moment doubt our worth

To keep our eyes on the everlasting prize.

May Allah reward our uncle with Paradise.

Aameen. Thooma Aameen.

Additionally, a short poem in his honour was composed by one of his beloved nieces.
